Wayne Rooney returns to Manchester United training after illness

Wayne Rooney has returned to Manchester United training after missing the Watford game through illness.

The 30-year-old is now in contention for Man United’s game against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday in what is a crucial UEFA Champions League game with the group so tightly poised.

In his absence, Ander Herrera played in the No.10 role at the weekend but as the Spaniard suffered a hamstring problem, Rooney can come straight back into the team in theory so long as he is fit. Here are some photos of Rooney in training:

Rooney hasn’t done enough this season in terms of his contribution to goals but we’re still in November and there is plenty of football left to play, so fans are still hoping to see a turnaround in form from our captain.

As we’ve seen over the years, Rooney operates in hot and cold patches. When he’s off he is atrocious but when he is on-form, there aren’t many strikers better than him. We haven’t seen the latter Rooney in a long time and that’s something I hope changes very soon.
