Anthony Martial’s performance against PSV Eindhoven frustrates Manchester United fans

Anthony Martial put in a disappointing display as he made his return to the Manchester United starting lineup for the 0-0 draw against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Frenchman missed the Reds trip to Watford on Saturday having picked up a minor injury on international duty and looked as if he had been rushed back into action for the crucial European clash. Martial had a huge chance to open the scoring in the first half but couldn’t quite beat the PSV keeper at his near post.

Fans have started to expect a lot from the 19-year-old, given the start he has had to his Man United career. However, he was below par against the Dutch champions, on a night where no-one in the team covered themselves in glory. United supporters were disappointed with their star youngster after yet another goalless draw at Old Trafford:

Martial’s disappointing night showed how important it is for this United side for him to be fully fit and raring to go. Despite not finding his free-scoring form from the start of the season, the former Monaco man has been crucial in allowing the team to penetrate defences and make things happen in the final third.

The poor display was indicative of how much work the team still has to do if they are serious about winning trophies this season as they try and lift silverware for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club.
