Louis van Gaal has dismissed suggestions that his Manchester United players will target PSV Eindhoven’s Hector Moreno in the game between the two sides on Wednesday.
Moreno’s challenge in Man United’s Champions League clash against PSV in September broke Luke Shaw’s leg in two places and the youngster is expected to be sidelined for the majority of the campaign.
There have been rumours that United will be looking for payback but van Gaal insisted it will not be an “issue”.
“No, my players are not doing that, I am sure of that,” van Gaal said.
“I don’t think that shall be an issue. I have said already that was not his purpose. In football that can happen and it is not the first time someone in football has had a broken leg.”
To add insult to injury, Moreno escaped punishment for the challenge before scoring as PSV secured a 2-1 win over United.
The Mexican’s awful challenge has robbed Shaw of what looked set to be a breakthrough season but United need to make sure their focus is on the task at hand rather than any sort of retribution. The best thing that the players can do for Shaw is to ensure that the side advance to the next stage of the Champions League with a win over the Dutch outfit.
