Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has praised Leicester City ahead of the clash between the two sides this weekend.
Leicester currently sit top of the Premier League, with Man United a point behind them in second.
Their good form has largely been down to Jamie Vardy, who will be hoping to break Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record for scoring in the most consecutive league games against United. Van Gaal believes Leicester deserve to be top of the pile.
“I don’t think anybody has expected that [Leicester at the top], even Leicester themselves,” van Gaal said.
“But they are deserved at No.1 because points are the most important thing; goals are important, but winning points is more important.”
Foxes duo Vardy and Riyad Mahrez are arguably the league’s most in-form players right now and United will need to have special plans for them on Saturday.
However, supporters will be confident that David de Gea and Chris Smalling will keep the pair out at the King Power stadium. It is at the other end of the pitch where United’s problems lie, as the lifeless draw against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday showed. The team will need much more of a cutting edge against Leicester than they did against the Dutch outfit.
