Gary Neville happy to see James Wilson leave Manchester United on loan

Gary Neville believes Manchester United’s decision to let James Wilson join Brighton and Hove Albion on loan this week was the right one for the youngster.

Wilson’s move to Brighton is set to run until the end of the season, although Man United have included a re-call option in the deal.

The decision drew criticism from some supporters as they felt Wilson would be better served by playing in United’s first-team. However, Neville insisted the 19-year-old will gain valuable experience in the Championship:

By moving to Brighton, Wilson will get regular game time in a competitive league, something he wouldn’t have got at United.

The odd thing about the move is that it didn’t happen sooner. Why did United and van Gaal wait until now, rather than the start of the campaign?

Van Gaal must have a target lined up for the January transfer window. United are now thin on the ground in terms of out-and-out strikers and van Gaal would be wise to strengthen the position when the window opens in just over a month.
