Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal rues missed chance to go top of the Premier League against Leicester City

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has insisted that his side cannot hope to win the Premier League title if they repeat results such as the 1-1 draw against Leicester City on Saturday.

Man United went behind thanks to Jamie Vardy’s strike before Bastian Schweinsteiger levelled things up for his side just before half time.

It was a disappointing result for United, who also drew against PSV Eindhoven in midweek, as they missed the chance to go top of the Premier League table. Van Gaal insisted United need to be turning their draws into victories if they want to win the title.

“I am not happy with a point because we were the better team,” van Gaal said.

“We dominated for 90 minutes but we have drawn. I have the feeling that we could have won this game. I’ve said to my players – this kind of match you have to win if you want to be champions at the end of the season.

United were poor from an offensive point of view against Leicester, as they so often have been this season, and they could have had no complaints had they lost against the Foxes. Van Gaal’s side will need to be much better against West Ham United next time out.
