Bayern Munich director of sport Matthias Sammer has insisted Thomas Muller is “irreplaceable” amid speculation linking the forward with moves to Manchester United and Chelsea.
Reports this week suggested Chelsea have joined the race to sign Muller, who was said to be the subject of an unsuccessful £50m bid from Man United this summer.
However, officials at Bayern have repeatedly stated that Muller will not be leaving the Bundesliga club anytime soon. Sammer reiterated that stance in a recent interview.
“Thomas Muller embodies everything which distinguishes FC Bayern Munich,” he said.
“He is an absolute role model, an absolute gem and he’s irreplaceable.”
Bayern would find it incredibly difficult to replace Muller as he has shown over the last few years that he is a world-class player.
While the player may be tempted by increased wages behind the scenes, it is hard to imagine Bayern letting go of one of their prize assets. It looks like Louis van Gaal will have to focus on other targets as he looks to inject “speed and creativity” into his side.
