Manchester United are planning a move for West Ham youngster Reece Oxford, according to The Times.
Reports say Louis van Gaal is willing to pay a total of £8 million to sign the 16-year-old defender who has already made his Premier League debut for West Ham in the 2-0 win over Arsenal at the start of the season, a game in which he played extremely well.
Man United are not the only team to have been linked with Oxford as Arsenal have also had their name thrown into the pot, so West Ham will have to fob off plenty of interest to keep hold of the youngster.
There aren’t many teenagers, let alone 16-year-old’s, who are ready for the Premier League but Oxford’s performance away at the Emirates belied a player who is so young and it’s not a surprise to see so many top clubs circling above his head.
Home grown talent always garners more interest and the fact Oxford has already made his debut takes him into the spotlight even more but £8 million for a 16-year-old is certainly pricey.
Both Rio Ferdinand and Michael Carrick had excellent careers at Old Trafford and they started off at West Ham. Could Oxford follow in their footsteps?
