Manchester United Starting XI vs Wolfsburg: De Gea, Varela, Smalling (c), Blind, Darmian, Fellaini, Schweinsteiger, Lingard, Mata, Memphis, Martial

Subs: Romero. Borthwick-Jackson, McNair, Carrick, Pereira, Young, Powell

Louis van Gaal has given Guillermo Varela his UEFA Champions League debut in tonight’s crucial game against Wolfsburg.

The 22-year-old starts at right-back ahead of Paddy McNair, with Matteo Darmian in at left-back.

Marouane Fellaini starts in what looks like a central midfield position and although that is a weak point, United’s attack has some real pace about it so hopefully we can hit on the counter-attack away from home.

Injuries have really taken their toll on United’s squad tonight but we still have enough quality there to win this game. It all depends on what United turn up – if the one that thrashed Everton 3-0 away does then we’re in for a great night but if not, it’s going to be a very painful, and nervous, watch for United fans.
