Paddy McNair overcomes injury to train ahead of Wolfsburg

Paddy McNair recovered from injury in time to travel with Manchester United’s game against Wolfsburg.

The 20-year-old was taken off at half-time against West Ham United at the weekend and replaced by Guillermo Varela, leading to some concerns as to how serious his injury was.

As McNair trained with his team-mates, it looks like his injury was only minor and at a time where United’s injury problems are mounting, it’s a timely boost.

There are still no guarantees McNair will start at right-back against Wolfsburg because Varela has also travelled and trained, so it all depends on who Louis van Gaal wants to play.

Varela only made his Man United debut at the weekend but he did show some real endeavour on the right-flank which was commendable, although there were a couple of lapses in defence which I suppose is understandable for somebody making their senior debut.

In an ideal world, Matteo Darmian would play in his favoured right-back role but with Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw injured, the Italian has to step in and fill the gaps in the squad.

Whoever starts at right-back on Tuesday night needs to be on top form because up against a tough Wolfsburg side, they are sure to be in for a busy night.
