Paul Scholes doesn’t think Bastian Schweinsteiger has done enough so far in a Manchester United shirt and expects to see more of him this season.
Man United fans were buzzing when Schweinsteiger was signed this summer but Scholes feels the influential midfielder should be doing more for his team, given his vast experience and track record as a player.
Speaking on BT Sport ahead of kick-off tonight, Scholes said: “Schweinsteiger has been quite disappointing for me to be honest.”
Fans weren’t happy before the game with Scholes’ criticism of Schweinsteiger but, truth be told, the veteran midfielder played very poorly against Wolfsburg in a game where we really needed him to dictate the tempo.
While I don’t feel Scholes’ criticism of Schweinsteiger on the whole is fair, it’s certainly accurate tonight. He wasn’t good enough, in fact he was extremely poor not only in possession but out of it as well and gave the ball away far too much.
I’m not expecting Schweinsteiger to be the box-to-box midfielder he was at Bayern Munich, and having the static Marouane Fellaini alongside him in midfield didn’t help either, but he’s much better than that.
We need Schweinsteiger to be our architect in midfield and against Wolfsburg he was far from it.
