Will Keane: My aim is still to play for Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

Will Keane is fully focused on his loan spell at Preston North End but has made it clear his long-term goal is to play for Manchester United.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Preston and got on the score-sheet three days ago by slotting the ball through his brother Michael’s legs in a 2-0 win over Burnley.

Having come through the ranks at Man United, Keane has shown how prolific he can be but a cruelly timed cruciate ligament injury halted his progress just as he was breaking into the first-team.

Despite the setbacks, Keane still wants to make up for lost time and challenge for a place in United’s team.

“My full focus is on Preston,” he said.

“But long term, my aim is still to play for United because I’ve been with them for a number of years.

“The knee injury I got there a few years ago wasn’t the best timing because I had just got in the squad at United.

“I’ve got to try and make up for lost time and this loan with Preston is helping me. My fitness is good and this is a great club to play for.”

It was such a cruel blow for Keane to suffer that cruciate injury when Sir Alex Ferguson intended to take him on the next pre-season tour and name him in his first-team squad for the following year.

However, now he’s overcome that injury, Keane is now back among the goals and re-finding his touch up front. It’s still a long road to recovery for Keane but if he can re-capture the sort of goalscoring form which made him such a crucial part of our successful youth teams, then there is every chance Keane will get an opportunity at United.
