Rio Ferdinand says it’s an embarrassment for Manchester United to join Europa League

Rio Ferdinand has labelled Manchester United’s failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League an embarrassment as it means they will be entered in the UEFA Europa League.

Ferdinand experienced the same thing with Man United back in 2012 and knows the feeling, something which he said was so bad you wouldn’t want to walk out of your own house.

For United’s current squad, the pain of elimination will be fresh and Ferdinand doesn’t think the players can really complain about the exit.

Times have changed from when Ferdinand was our Rolls Royce defender alongside Nemanja Vidic under Sir Alex Ferguson. Now, we’ve got a team under Louis van Gaal who are struggling to win, struggling to entertain and really struggling to find their own identity.

It’s now a crucial time for van Gaal at the club because with popular opinion now swaying against him and his style of football, the pressure to improve is going to be immense.
