Juan Mata angry with Louis van Gaal after substitution against Wolfsburg – report

by Sam Peoples

Juan Mata being replaced by Nick Powell against Wolfsburg raised plenty of eyebrows among Manchester United fans, and by the sounds of it Mata himself wasn’t too pleased at all.

Red News editor Barney Chilton has suggested Mata made his feelings known that he wasn’t at all happy at being substituted for Powell and if we’re all being honest, who could blame him?

The decision to bring on Powell, who had only recently returned from a ten month lay-off to play 150 minutes of U21s football, into United’s most important game of the season for a player who was actually having one of his better performances was one which left so many people baffled.

I hate to bring the name up but this is all starting to feel a little bit like the David Moyes era. Reports are starting to emerge of disgruntled players in the squad, fans aren’t surprised by us losing and there’s an overarching frustration towards how United are playing at the moment. The current situation is far from the same as it was under Moyes but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried with how fan opinion is changing towards van Gaal and how the patience is starting to be replaced by anger.

The only thing that can change this is United winning games. If we can string together a few wins then the frustration will be cooled but with only three wins in our last 11 games, we’ve got to turn around our form to make that happen – starting with Bournemouth away on Saturday night.
