Louis van Gaal was confronted by angry Manchester United fans inside the Wolfsburg stadium after Tuesday night’s dramatic exit from the UEFA Champions League.

Frustration among some supporters has been increasing over the last two months but it boiled over onto the surface after our defeat in Germany, more so for some than others.

I’m not too sure what any confrontation achieves but it’s indicative that van Gaal’s relationship with the fans is changing.

Right now, he’s on a downward turn. We’ve trusted in the process and the philosophy but find ourselves playing dull football consistently and we’re now out of the Champions League after an embarrassing woeful qualifying campaign.

What’s next for United and van Gaal? With an away trip to Bournemouth on Saturday, our focus goes immediately back to the Premier League and it’s lucky that we’ve got an opportunity to bury the Champions League frustration within less than a week.

However, not getting three points against Bournemouth would see the frustrations intensify and every passing game without a win now will do precisely the same thing.
