Bayern Munich honorary president Franz Beckenbauer has suggested that Manchester United might be Pep Guardiola’s best option if he decides to leave the Bundesliga side.
Guardiola’s three-year contract with Bayern expires at the end of the season and speculation has been rife as to what his next move will be.
Manchester City and Man United have both been linked with the Spaniard but Beckenbauer believes United would be a good option for him if he leaves Germany.
“Pep is interesting for every top club in the world. That’s just normal,” Beckenbauer said.
“He can pick his club — and in terms of popularity Manchester United might be the No. 1 worldwide.”
The pressure is mounting on Louis van Gaal following United’s early Champions League exit this week and the club may need to make a difficult decision in the summer when it comes to the Dutchman’s future.
If Guardiola does become available, United would seriously need to consider making a move for him. His sides are known for expansive attacking football, something which van Gaal has not delivered during his time in charge of the club.
