Eamon Dunphy firmly believe that Pep Guardiola would prefer to manage Manchester City over Manchester United.
Guardiola has been linked with a move to Old Trafford since questions have been raised about Louis van Gaal‘s future at the club.
The Dutch manager’s side are currently fourth in the Barclay’s Premier League after they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium and made an early exit from the Champions League when they failed to win against Wolfsburg in Germany.
Dunphy feels that Manuel Pellegrini’s team are a better option for United target Guardiola.
“There are dramatic things happening at Manchester United,” Dunphy said.
“He’s (Van Gaal) gone, a dead man. Both of them will be gone, it’s a question of when. I think, at least, Mourinho is in the Champions League. PSG knocked them out last year and they may be do it again.
“I don’t think when he (Guardiola) looks at the Manchester United squad he’d want to go there. He has two friends, the directors of football at Manchester City, who have money to buy the world so, on that basis, he’s much more likely go there.”
Van Gaal’s future at United is now far from secure following a disappointing Champions League exit and an even more disappointing response at Bournemouth a few days later. Fans expected to see a winning response from United but instead we played even worse and deserved to lose.
In terms of Guardiola’s potential arrival in the Premier League, surely United couldn’t afford to ignore his availability? There isn’t any coach in modern day football who has a track record to rival Pep and what he’s achieved at Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
The word so far from United is that van Gaal is safe but with growing discontent among fans and performances only getting worse, there may come a time sooner rather than later that the club changes its stance on van Gaal’s future.
