Every Manchester United game now grows in importance. Another disappointing result, this time a shock 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth, puts added pressure onto Louis van Gaal and his players.
Going into the home game against Norwich this weekend, we’ve got to be confident regardless of the context. After all, we are at home against Norwich – a team who have been battling relegation over the last few years at the same time as we’ve been challenging for titles.
There’s no avoiding the expectations any more. United should win this game, end of. Context is somewhat irrelevant. Yes, injuries play a part but our team is still strong enough to wipe the floor with Norwich. We all know it never works out that way but it’s the reality that our team is, on paper, much stronger than Norwich and should be winning.
Please give me Morgan Schneiderlin back for this game. We need him. We missed him desperately against Bournemouth and the sooner we move away from having Marouane Fellaini as a holding midfielder the better.
Our squad is depleted at the moment but this is the situation where true champions are tested. Right now, our squad isn’t good enough to compete on all fronts but what we can do is see off Norwich at home. If we can’t do that, we may as well accept fifth place and move on to next season.
