Juan Mata wants Manchester United fans to stick together and promises to never give up

Juan Mata has reassured fans that Manchester United’s bad streak is only temporary.

Louis van Gaal‘s side crashed out of the Champions League after they failed to win against Wolfsburg in Germany and then suffered a 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth in the following game, much to the dismay of fans.

As a result of this, the Dutchman has been heavily criticised and questions have been raised over his future at Old Trafford.

Despite the increased pressure and criticism, Mata wants everybody to stick together but is under no illusion that things really have to improve.

Writing in his weekly blog, Mata said: “Everything passes and this bad streak will pass. When we were coming back from Bournemouth all I could think about was the frustration of the defeat, the disappointment of those who came with us.

“In these moments is when we have to stick together more than ever, I do believe it, because – luckily – football gives you another game every few days. We are aware that we have to get better and that’s why, despite feeling so bad after a painful defeat, we have to stand up and keep working to prepare the next game.

“With the right attitude and each of us giving the maximum we will get out of this situation. This is a long season and there’s still a long way to go. We will never give up, that’s for sure. December is a difficult month and it’s time to start winning again and get our confidence back.”

Mata himself was one of our worst performers against Bournemouth in a game he should have controlled, so he needs to improve individually as well as helping us collectively overcome this slump.

Luckily for United, teams are dropping points all around us in the Premier League but it doesn’t take away from the fact that we’re really in a rut of bad form.

What Mata and the whole squad needs to do is genuinely put in a committed performance and start to turn it around with a convincing win over Norwich at home. If we can’t even do that, then real questions are going to be asked about the players and not just Louis van Gaal.
