Timothy Fosu-Mensah played in an unfamiliar position at right-back on Monday night for Manchester United’s U21s but you wouldn’t have known it as he put in a brilliant performance.
The 17-year-old is one hell of an athlete and it really stood out in a role where he was tasked with a lot of running up and down the flanks.
Check out the highlights from his performance and pay particular attention to a barnstorming run he made down the right flank at 7.14. After being fouled, he quickly spotted an opportunity, took the free-kick early and skipped past three defenders before putting it on a plate for Nick Powell who buried his header.
So, that means Fosu-Mensah is comfortable playing at right-back, defensive midfielder and at centre-back as well. He’s also played in attacking midfield at points this season, so it won’t be long before he plays in goal probably.
In all seriousness, Fosu-Mensah’s by far and away one of our best prospects breaking through. He might only be 17 but continued injuries in the first-team may well see him get an opportunity to be part of a match-day squad as well.
