Ashley Young was left bemused following his exclusion from the starting XI for Manchester United’s game against Bournemouth last week after Louis van Gaal had indicated he would be in the team, according to the Guardian.
Young had been suffering from a minor injury but he expected to play in the 2-1 defeat against the Cherries.
He instead ended the game on the substitute’s bench, meaning he has now been used as an unused sub in Man United’s last four fixtures.
Van Gaal has chosen to play the inexperienced duo of Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Guillermo Varela over Young in recent weeks, with the 30-year-old not selected since the 1-1 draw against Leicester City last month.
David de Gea recently claimed that morale within the United squad is high but this story would suggest otherwise.
Young was one of van Gaal’s star performers in his first season in charge of the club but he has found it more difficult to force his way into the team this time around. United will undoubtedly become more and more concerned about the reports of disharmony coming out of Old Trafford.
