Viv Anderson has urged Manchester United to waste no time in securing the services of Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola.
Louis van Gaal is currently under huge pressure at Man United following back to back defeats against Wolfsburg and Bournemouth.
There have been reports that Guardiola will be available at the end of the campaign and Anderson believes United should make their move for the Spaniard before installing Ryan Giggs as boss in the long-term.
“Manchester United should go for Pep Guardiola straight away,” he said.
“I would have gone for him before Louis van Gaal if I had the chance. He’s a very good manager, he gets the teams to play in the right way.
“It’s more about the philosophy of Manchester United that you have to instil in the manager, and I don’t think they did their homework when they employed van Gaal. Man United have to play in a certain way and fans are voting with their feet now, they’re not liking what they’re seeing at the moment.
“Who would I like to see there long-term? Ryan Giggs. He knows the philosophy of the club and I know he hasn’t got much experience but he knows the club inside out and he would get people around who know a bit more.”
Guardiola has proven time and time again that he is a world-class manager capable of delivering expansive, attacking football.
United would be wise to do all they can to bring him to Old Trafford. If he ends up at somewhere like Manchester City and United continue with Louis van Gaal, it could well set them back in terms of winning trophies.
