The Man United captain was making his 500th appearance for the club and was presented with a special award by Sir Bobby Charlton prior to kickoff. However, he won’t look back fondly on the game.
He had some nice touches but, for a reported £300,000-a-week, you’d be looking for much more from Rooney. United fans had their say on the 30-year-old:
Rooney, Jones and smalling are so key, #ManUtd looks so much better this game now that they're back

Even when he's playing badly, Rooney's movement causes problems for teams. Part of why he's vital #MUFC

Don't know what happened to Rooney. He used to be one of the best strikers of the ball in the world, now he plays like a Sunday league lad.

We are showing glimpses of decent play against Norwich, Rooney has been showing a few decent touches of the ball here and their.

We one goal down at half time. We showed better attacking football, but we can't rely on Rooney as our striker. He needs to be dropped!#MUFC

Don't care if it's his 500000th game. Take Rooney off!

Every time we are on the counter, Rooney either passes it backwards or Young crosses it to no one ffs

Rooney sucks something awful. Get him off the pitch and get Herrera out there ASAP. And why isn’t Schneiderlin playing? #MUFC

I'm so often asking, "what is Rooney doing there?"

Rooney was making his return from injury but he simply wasn’t good enough at Old Trafford.
The same could be said for many of his teammates but it is hard to recall Rooney actually having an overwhelmingly good game this season. There needs to be change at United, with Rooney’s and Louis van Gaal’s positions at the club very much under question.
