Manchester City favourites to land Pep Guardiola but Manchester United hold strong interest – report

Manchester City are favourites to sign Pep Guardiola this summer but Manchester United and Chelsea retain a strong interest, according to the Guardian’s Sid Lowe.

Guardiola announced this week his decision to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season, with Carlo Ancelotti replacing the Spaniard at the Allianz Arena.

City have long coveted Guardiola but a final decision has not been made, giving hope to Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

With Bayern breaking for the winter, Guardiola has flown to Catalonia to spend time with his family and decide where his future lies. Each club interested will attempt to persuade him to join them in what will be something of a casting process.

City are considered the front-runners for his signature as their sporting director, Txiki Beguiristain, worked with Guardiola at Barcelona, but United’s size, history and status are significant attractions for the 44-year-old.

It appears that Louis van Gaal has lost the faith of the players at Old Trafford and it is clear that he is not the right man to lead the club moving forward.

It is not every day that one of the most talented managers in the world becomes available and United would be wise to do all they can to land him. However, with so many clubs interested, it will be difficult to persuade him.
