Powell was seen to have ‘liked’ a tweet by Sky Sports claiming that van Gaal has ‘wasted money’ during his tenure as Man United boss. It would certainly be a strange move from the 21-year-old if he did intentionally ‘like’ the post, with his manager putting his faith in the youngster giving him appearances in crucial games since his return from injury.
The Englishman was later insistent that he did not mean to like the post, making the following statement:
Didn't even know I liked that post, did not mean to. I was just scrolling down my news feed.

Powell has been coming under some unwarranted criticism from United fans recently as he has been thrown onto the field in games with the Reds desperate for a goal. Having only recently returned form a serious knee injury, not many agree with van Gaal that Powell deserves a spot in the first team until his recovery is fully complete.
His substitute appearances have been below par but it is difficult for fans to judge him on performances where he doesn’t quite have the time to make an impact on the game. Powell will certainly be grateful to van Gaal for giving him the opportunities, making the ‘liked’ tweet all that more conspicuous.
