Manchester United make initial contact with Jose Mourinho – report

Manchester United have made contact with former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho as Louis van Gaal looks to be on the brink at Old Trafford, according to ESPN.

Man United are without a win in six games and there has been plenty of talk about a potential successor to van Gaal, should he lose his job.

Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti were said to be the two front-runners for the position before Mourinho was let go by Chelsea towards the end of last week.

The Portuguese now seems to be the man to take over from van Gaal and the club have been in contact with him.

Since United’s loss to Norwich City in the Premier League on Saturday, there have been plenty of rumours regarding van Gaal’s future in the Old Trafford hot seat. Conflicting reports have come out through the weekend but the Mourinho to United brigade is starting to gain momentum and it looks increasingly likely that he could be the man to try and repair the damage caused by van Gaal.

Mourinho has reportedly been after the United job ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired and now could be the time for him to fulfil his ‘dream’. With the club in crisis and desperate for a change in form and fortunes, the former Real Madrid manager could be the man to lead them back to the top, as they were under Ferguson.
