Andy Mitten: Ryan Giggs wants the Manchester United job

Andy Mitten believes Ryan Giggs wants to succeed Louis van Gaal as manager of Manchester United.

Giggs is currently serving as van Gaal’s assistant at Old Trafford having taken on the role following the Dutchman’s arrival at Man United in 2014.

However, van Gaal is currently under huge pressure following an awful month which has seen United crash out of the Champions League and suffer back to back Premier League defeats against Bournemouth and Norwich City. Mitten insisted Giggs is keen on taking the reigns at United.

“Giggs wants the job and those who know him well are convinced he’s got what it takes to be a top manager, but with United in free-fall, the club might decide it’s too much too soon and go for experience,” he wrote in his Paddy Power blog.

United are currently in crisis mode and whoever takes over from van Gaal, if the Dutchman is sacked, will not be given the luxury of a smooth transition.

Giggs has next to no experience of managing at the highest level and it would be a huge gamble if United were to appoint him as boss on a permanent basis. That being said, as a club legend, Giggs knows exactly what supporters want to see at Old Trafford; expansive, attacking football.
