Manchester United fans disappointed with Ander Herrera’s display against Stoke

Ander Herrera put in a dismal display as Manchester United lost 2-0 against Stoke City on Saturday.

The Spaniard was handed a role in midfield alongside Michael Carrick at the Britannia stadium, as Marouane Fellaini lined up in a more advanced role.

However, Herrera’s touch was poor, his passing was off and his overall contribution was minimal as goals from Bojan and Marko Arnautovic heaped the pressure on Louis van Gaal. It’s safe to say Man United fans and pundits weren’t pleased with Herrera’s display:

There had been numerous calls for Herrera to play this term but perhaps his performance against Stoke gave fans a glimpse of why van Gaal has been leaving him out of the starting XI.

Of course, the same could be said for many of his teammates, but Herrera is supposed to be a creative spark and he was anything but against the Potters.

United, as a whole, need to be much better going forward. While the players haven’t been good enough, the failure to motivate them falls squarely at the feet of van Gaal.
