Manchester United vs Stoke City: Predicted XI and Formation

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea Doesn’t need to be explained anymore.

Ashley Young – Matteo DArmian isn’t fit enough to return and although I prefer Guillermo Varela there, Louis van Gaal turned to experience against Norwich and I expect him to do the same in a must-win game at Stoke.

Chris Smalling – He’ll need to have a great game up against Stoke.

Phil Jones – Will he be fit? Won’t he be fit? You decide.

Daley Blind Can see him at left-back for the foreseeable future.

Michael Carrick – Desperately want Ander Herrera to start in central midfield but just can’t see van Gaal doing it for some reason.

Morgan Schneiderlin – Simply needs to start.

Juan Mata Played so poorly in the last couple of games. Would rather Herrera played at right-wing instead but unlikely to happen.

Memphis Depay – So unsure about Memphis. Really hasn’t settled properly.

Anthony Martial – United’s only bright spark these days.

Wayne Rooney Captain unfantastic.

Formation: 4-2-3-1 – Want nothing more than for a 4-3-3 formation to return on a permanent basis but van Gaal loves the added defensive protection which two holding midfielders gives him.
