Manchester United’s players arrived at Carrington today to train ahead of Monday night’s game with Chelsea.
With only 48 hours between the Stoke City and Chelsea games, the players’ fitness will really be tested and although there is an intense scrutiny on Louis van Gaal at the moment, our squad also deserves to be lambasted.
Everybody was shocking against Stoke and they certainly haven’t made it any easier for van Gaal this season.
As mentioned, the whole team was poor against Stoke but Dutch duo Blind and Memphis in particular had terrible games. Blind played like a lost puppy and Memphis didn’t do anything to help himself with an atrocious back-header which led to the first goal but his overall performance was so stale.
Both are in contention to start on Monday against Chelsea but after his calamity I wouldn’t be surprised to see Memphis dropped to the bench as van Gaal has other options.
The players have really got to stand up and be accounted for against Chelsea. In front of the home crowd at Old Trafford, surely there is no way they can limp to another defeat without putting everything on the line. At least, that’s how the fans will rightly see it.
Not that a win against Chelsea is going to do much to alleviate the deep rooted problems at the club now but it will at least give fans something to cheer about.
