Louis van Gaal: I will not resign as Manchester United manager

Louis van Gaal has insisted he will not resign as Manchester United manager following his side’s 0-0 draw against Chelsea on Monday.

Man United put in a much better performance against Chelsea at Old Trafford but the result meant they have now gone eight games without a win in all competitions.

After United’s dismal 2-1 defeat against Stoke City last time out, van Gaal suggested he may resign as boss. However, the Dutchman was in a much more defiant mood after earning a point against Chelsea.

“Will I resign? On the contrary. When the players can give such a performance with a lot of pressure, there is not any reason to resign for me. Maybe the media wants me to but I shall not resign. It’s not a question of staying, it’s a question of fulfilling my contract,” van Gaal said.

United looked more threatening and lively on Monday but the fact is that they didn’t win three points. Van Gaal cannot expect to stay in a job as big as the one at United following such a torrid run.

At the end of the day, results are what matters and they simply haven’t been good enough as of late. Van Gaal may be bullish in public but it is likely that officials behind the scenes will seriously be considering his future.
