Danny Blind has suggested that Louis van Gaal could return to the Holland set up as a technical director if he is sacked at Manchester United.
Van Gaal’s position at Man United has come under scrutiny following an eight game winless run in all competitions.
The veteran boss managed Holland for a total of four years in two separate spells. Blind, who took charge of Holland in July, believes the Dutch FA may consider bringing van Gaal back into the international fold.
“With van Gaal I could achieve a lot,” Blind said.
“He is in the top category, but there are also many other options to think of where the shoe could fit. I do not know if that will happen. I recently read a comment by Bert van Oostveen (KNVB director of professional football) about [appointing a technical director] but I have not spoken to him about it personally.”
Van Gaal has often suggested that the United job will be his last in football, which is reportedly one of the reasons why the club are reluctant to sack him.
Perhaps taking up a role with Holland will smooth the whole process out, should United decide to let van Gaal go. The eight game winless stretch is unacceptable at a club of United’s stature and, with Jose Mourinho ready and available, you get the sense that officials will have to make a tough decision sooner rather than later.
