Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Wayne Rooney is at his best when he shows aggression on the pitch.
Rooney has been below par for the majority of the campaign but he put in a much improved performance in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea on Monday.
The 30-year-old rallied his teammates and won a number of tough challenges but he could not prevent United extending their winless run to eight games in all competitions.
“The aggressiveness was there tonight. His movement, his touch was brilliant when it came into him and his passing was great as well. The only thing that was missing was the goal.”
Rooney was dropped to the substitute’s bench for the game against Stoke City on Boxing Day and he responded in the best possible way against Chelsea.
It was the sort of performance which United will need from their captain as they look to get out of what has been a terrible slump. Rooney will be looking to lead the line once again as United take on Swansea City at Old Trafford in the New Year.
