Louis van Gaal has claimed that he doesn’t know if he is still under pressure following Manchester United’s 0-0 draw against Chelsea on Monday.
Man United went into the game in terrible form but they were much better against the Premier League champions as they earned a point.
However, the result meant van Gaal’s side extended their winless streak to eight games in all competitions. Van Gaal insisted that United’s performance against Chelsea was “fantastic”.
“I don’t know (if the pressure has gone),” van Gaal said.
“The pressure is what you experience by yourself, but the players are more important because the pressure is on them at a certain time and that is the most important period in the 90 minutes. The way we played under that pressure (against Chelsea) it was fantastic.”
The display against Chelsea did relieve some of the pressure on the Dutchman but the fact remains that United are in the middle of a horrendous set of results.
An eight game winless stretch would not be tolerated at any other club in the world and there is no reason why it should be accepted at United. With Jose Mourinho reportedly waiting in the wings, van Gaal has to turn things around quickly, starting with the game against Swansea City this weekend.
