Manchester City have identified Schalke forward Leroy Sane as their top transfer target, according to the Guardian.
However, City are said to be reluctant to pay the £32m asking price that Schalke have set for Sane, who is also rumoured to be on Manchester United’s radar.
City have been monitoring Sane since December 2013 and are hoping to wrap up a deal in January, although the summer is considered a more realistic prospect.
Sane is widely regarded to be one of the brightest young talents in world football and it would be a shame to see him choose City over United.
City are also said to be front-runners for Pep Guardiola’s signature after the Spanish boss announced his intention to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the campaign.
If United are to establish themselves among the elite clubs of world football once again, they need to be attracting the best talent and they are failing in that respect right now. The hope is that Ed Woodward has something up his sleeve ahead of January.
