David Moyes: Louis van Gaal should be given more time at Manchester United

David Moyes believes Louis van Gaal should be given more time to turn things around at Manchester United.

Van Gaal, who replaced Moyes at Man United, is under huge pressure at Old Trafford having overseen an eight game winless streak in all competitions.

Moyes was sacked after less than a year in the job following a disastrous campaign at United but the Scot insisted van Gaal is the right man to improve the team’s fortunes.

“After Sir Alex the job was going to be very difficult. It was going to take time to rebuild, it was a rebuilding job at Manchester United,” Moyes said.

“You’ve got to remember David Gill left, he was a big influence at Manchester United.

“I think even what Manchester United stand for, is they keep their managers, they’ve always supported their managers.

“I hope they stick with Louis van Gaal, he deserves more time, it’s still a work in progress for him, he’s made some signings, from my experience in Spain it will take time for players from abroad to settle in. So, I think they should stick with it. They don’t want to become a club which continuously changes their manager.”

United stuck with Moyes until it was mathematically impossible to finish in the top four of the Premier League but there is a sense that they need to let go of van Gaal sooner if they are to rescue their faltering campaign.

Van Gaal’s side are out of the Capital One Cup and the Champions League and an eight game winless stretch at any other top club in the world would not be tolerated. Whatever United choose to do will likely make a huge impact on the team’s success in the coming years.
