Manchester United’s David de Gea has insisted that he wants to be the best goalkeeper in the world.
De Gea has been in sensational form this term, most recently pulling off a string of superb saves in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea last time out.
The Spaniard is considered to be the only real world-class player in Man United’s squad but he claimed that he can get even better.
“Well, yes, I guess that’s the ultimate aim,” De Gea said.
“I try to train and I try to play in games and to do the best I possibly can in order to attain that level and to be able to make it. Of course, getting to be number one keeper in the world is a tough ask because there are loads of goalkeepers out there and some very good ones, too. But I always try to give my very best to reach that standard.”
De Gea was close to a move to Real Madrid this summer but a deal collapsed on the final day of the Spanish transfer window due to late paperwork.
It would have been a huge disappointment for De Gea as it was clear that he wanted to move to Madrid but he has responded in superb fashion, getting his head down and putting in stellar performances for the team. United have been in awful form this season and they have plenty of problems but De Gea can always be relied upon to deliver.
