Rob Draper from Mail on Sunday is convinced Manchester United will make a January move for Southampton’s Sadio Mane.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Sunday Supplement, Draper also expects Louis van Gaal to be on the lookout for a new midfielder as well as Mane.
“I’m sure they will try and get Mane and add to that forward line, they will probably add a midfielder,” Draper said.
“But he’s had the pick of his buys so it can’t just be the solution.”
Van Gaal attempted to sign Mane at the tail end of the summer transfer window but Southampton stood firm and rejected all interest.
Ronald Koeman has insisted the South Coast club will not sell Mane in January but as is always the case in football, every man has his price.
United could really do with some reinforcements in attack and it’s not a surprise to hear that Mane is already the front runner in terms of what reports are linking us with.
Mane could solve a lot of problems for United in that he is direct, has bags of pace and, most importantly, is capable of scoring as well which is the main issue van Gaal needs to fix if we are to mount any hint of a title race this season.
It will be interesting to see how the Mane story develops over the next few weeks but the initial indications are that the Senegalese winger is once again on van Gaal’s radar.
