Juan Mata: Manchester United started 2016 in best possible way with win over Swansea City

Juan Mata believes Manchester United started 2016 in the best possible way with a 2-1 victory over Swansea City on Saturday.

Man United opened the scoring through Anthony Martial, who headed home Ashley Young’s cross.

Gylfi Sigurdsson levelled things up for Swansea before Wayne Rooney produced an audacious flick to secure all three points for Louis van Gaal’s side. Mata was delighted with the win:

United’s first half against Swansea was a familiar one, with slow football a feature of the home side’s play following a bright start.

However, United did well to grind out a result in the end, although they did survive some late scares, particularly in the form of Lukasz Fabianski’s late header.

It was a crucial result for van Gaal as United went into the game on the back of an eight game winless streak in all competitions. While van Gaal is still firmly under pressure at Old Trafford, the win will relieve some of the pressure on him before the FA Cup clash against Sheffield United next week.
