Louis van Gaal prepared to let Nick Powell leave Manchester United on loan

Louis van Gaal is prepared to let Nick Powell leave Manchester United on loan for the rest of the season according to reports.

The 21-year-old midfielder returned to the squad this season having been out with an injury for almost a year and van Gaal has used him in both the Champions League and Premier League.

However, reports suggest Powell could be loaned out in order to get much needed game time and Championship side Preston North End are being touted as a possible destination.

While I would usually wholeheartedly agree with loan spells for youngsters, Powell has a unique case in which it might not be in his best interest any more.

He’s already spent time out on loan at Wigan Athletic and Leicester City to varying degrees of success. Would another spell away from United, after spending so long working his way back to fitness, really be the best solution at this point in his career?

For me, I’d like to see Powell kept in and around the first-team for the rest of the year, working hard in training, regaining his touch and staying around his team-mates.

Given how bad loan spells can be – look at Adnan Januzaj‘s current one with Borussia Dortmund – it would be a big risk to send Powell out now. That’s my thoughts on it anyway and I’d be interested to hear yours.
