Andreas Pereira steals the show against Tottenham Hotspur U21s

Andreas Pereira put in a dominant man of the match performance for Manchester United’s U21s in their 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night.

The young midfielder scored directly from a corner to give Man United a comfortable 2-0 lead and then grabbed his second with a breakaway goal in the final seconds of the game after he coolly rounded the goalkeeper to slot home.

Ahead of the game, I said Pereira had to stand-out at U21s and he certainly did that by scoring from a corner and an excellent counter-attack. He’s put himself in the perfect position to earn a starting spot against Sheffield United in the FA Cup:

Pereira really needed to make a statement to Louis van Gaal that he should be in the first-team more often and a match-winning performance was the best way for him to do just that.

It’ll be interesting to see if van Gaal does now start Pereira this weekend. Judging by the form shown against Spurs’ U21s, I’d say he is.
