Sadio Mane could force Southampton’s hand in doing his part to help orchestrate a January transfer to Manchester United.
The Sunday World reports that the Senegalese winger will do all he can to push through a move, despite the fact Southampton have no intention of selling him.
For Man United fans, this draws plenty of parallels with the Marcos Rojo situation. Prior to joining, Rojo refused to train with Sporting Lisbon due to hold-ups over his transfer due to him being part owned by the Doyen Sports Group. Could Mane be adopting a similar tactic?
Southampton will take a public stance that Mane is not for sale just as they did with Luke Shaw and Morgan Schneiderlin but every player has his price, so it just remains to be seen whether we’d be willing to match that if we are indeed interested in signing him.
United have the money, so that isn’t a problem, it all boils down to our valuation of Mane but if we genuinely want to contend for the Premier League title, we need to strengthen in January. If we don’t, our target this season will be to fight for a top four finish.
