In this potential XI, I’ve put out what I think is Manchester United’s strongest XI to face Sheffield United which has a couple of key players rested.
Notably, Anthony Martial isn’t in the side. As much as I’d want him to be, Louis van Gaal is likely to take this as an opportunity to rest the Frenchman because there is an inherent risk of burning him out if he continues to play every 90 minutes.
The other rested player is Daley Blind. He’s been used as both a left-back and a centre-back due to our current injury problems with Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo, so I’d be surprised if he started against Sheffield United with a tricky away tie to Newcastle only a few days later.
I’d predict van Gaal to put out a strong team against Sheffield United simply because it’s our best chance of silverware this season and he’ll know that winning the FA Cup will relieve some pressure.
