The Belgian started zero games in the Bundesliga for Dortmund this season and played less than 600 minutes of football in all competitions, so it’s not altogether surprising to see Man United bring him back to Manchester.
With United having such little attacking threat, it’s an opportunity for Januzaj to come in and offer Louis van Gaal some much needed vibrancy.
Prior to his loan move, Januzaj played a string of games for United and was growing in confidence which showed when he scored against Aston Villa but van Gaal then sent him out on loan, much to the surprise of fans.
His departure was considered one of the strangest in the summer because it was such a risky loan and left us with very few options in attack, and so it has proved with his early return to United.
Januzaj will now get another opportunity under van Gaal. If he can re-find the sort of match-winning form he showed against Villa, there’s every chance he’ll quickly work his way back into the first-team.
