Manchester United: De Gea; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Borthwick-Jackson; Schweinsteiger, Fellaini; Herrera, Mata, Martial; Rooney

Subs: Romero, McNair, Varela, Lingard, Pereira, Memphis, Keane

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has named a strong side to face Sheffield United in the FA Cup this afternoon.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson returns to the starting XI in Ashley Young’s absence, while Matteo Darmian is also in the team.

Marouane Fellaini lines up alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger in midfield, with Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney trusted to provide the attacking impetus for United.

The injured Phil Jones misses out and Morgan Schneiderlin is left out of the squad altogether. Will Keane, however, makes the substitute’s bench.

Van Gaal will be keen for his side to build on the momentum they gained in recent games against Swansea and Chelsea and a convincing win against Sheffield United will go a long way to providing that.
