Mundo Deportivo have followed up on Cadena Cope’s stories linking Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez with Manchester United and they bring a firm stance from Atletico to the table – he is not for sale.
They go on to say the only reason Niguez would consider a move away is because of a lack of playing time but he is now considered a focal point for Atletico’s future, so has no desire at all to leave and wants to succeed at the Spanish club.
“He’s not for sale. Atletico is fighting for titles and needs all our players,” a club official told the paper.
United really shouldn’t be chasing a central midfielder at a time when we so desperately need a new striker and left-back. Unless Marouane Fellaini is going to be sold to AC Milan, then go ahead Ed Woodward – do your best.
We don’t have a particularly great record when it comes to negotiating with Spanish clubs in recent years, so I’d fully expect this to turn into some sort of unfulfilling saga and by unfulfilling I mean Niguez remaining at Atletico and United being left empty handed.
In order to gain some further insight into the Niguez story, we’ll be talking to Nick from AtleticoFans.com to find out how he has been playing this season and whether there are any reasons to believe he could leave the club any time soon.
