Manuel Neuer was named in the FIFPro World XI team but David de Gea is edging far closer to the recognition he deserves with a second placed finish.
De Gea was chosen ahead of Gianluigi Buffon, Keylor Navas and Iker Casillas after a fantastic season at Manchester United.
It’s only a matter of time before De Gea usurps Neuer at the top of the pile but having been overlooked so often by Vicente del Bosque for Spain, he’ll be delighted with this finish ahead of Casillas.

This year is an extremely important one for De Gea. Without him, United would not finish in the top 4 and we desperately need him to keep our defence watertight if we’re to have any success at the end of the season. As well as that, De Gea will be thinking about Euro 2016 and heading to the tournament as Spain’s No.1 goalkeeper.
To do that, he’s got to keep performing at the very top level with United and that can only be a good thing because we’ll need him to do just that, starting away at Newcastle on Tuesday night.
On a side note, Wayne Rooney was voted as the 14th best attacker by his fellow professionals…did he pay them off?
