Preston North End are set to sign Liam Grimshaw from Manchester United on a permanent deal.
On Tuesday morning, Motherwell revealed they had been ‘gazumped’ by an unnamed English club and The Scottish Sun are now reporting that team is Preston.
Having completed the signing of Ben Pearson on Monday, Grimshaw would be the second midfielder to leave Man United for Preston within the space of a week.
They also have United’s young goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on loan as well as our ex-defender Marnick Vermijl, so it looks like they are building a little mini United down in Deepdale.
Although he was nominated for the Denzil Haroun U21s Player of the Year last season, I’m not overly surprised Grimshaw is on the verge of completing an exit from United because, unlike Pearson, I think he was much further away from any opportunity at the club despite being only one year younger.
So long as Grimshaw passes his medical tests, he can complete a move to Preston this week and seeing as United recalled him from his loan at Motherwell early, we’re going to assume that is being accelerated through.
