Paul Scholes has been one of Manchester United’s staunchest critics this season but he was certainly entertained by the game against Newcastle United.
For the neutral it was a six goal thriller but for Man United it has to be considered two points dropped after a two goal lead was thrown away to draw 3-3.
That’s something which Scholes points out but he holds out special praise for Wayne Rooney after his performance.
Speaking on BT Sport after the game, he said: “It was a great game to watch.
“I think United will probably be the most disappointed team, blowing a 2-0 lead and a 3-2 lead as well.
“I think Wayne Rooney was sensational and you have to say Wijnaldum was sensational for Newcastle as well.”
Scholes went on to admit it wasn’t a great result for United but it’s clear he isn’t overly frustrated by it, simply because United played the sort of football which fans want to see.
He added: “It’s not a great result but it’s not a bad result. It was the type of football we want to see.”
There will be plenty of United fans going away from St James Park tonight wondering how we didn’t come away with three points but there won’t be any who throw their hands in the air, frustrated at why we were so diabolically boring.
That’s part of the battle which Louis van Gaal has to win but up next at Anfield, the toughest of grounds for us, he’s got to match that entertainment with a result.
