Manchester United fans pleased with Ander Herrera’s performance against Newcastle United

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera put in a solid display during the Reds’ disappointing 3-3 draw against Newcastle United on Tuesday.

The Spaniard started in the No.10 role behind Wayne Rooney and was instrumental during an impressive first half from the team, with his through ball to Wayne Rooney hugely important in helping set up Man United’s second goal, scored by Jesse Lingard.

Herrera was taken off in the second half and replaced by his Spanish counterpart Juan Mata. During a season where United have been reluctant to get in behind teams, the 26-year-old was one of the few players looking to make things happen in the final third. The supporters made their feelings known:

Herrera has shown time and again that he is the ideal No.10 for United with his incisive passing and forward drive. The fact that he was taken off in the second half while Marouane Fellaini was kept on the pitch left many fans scratching their heads. The Belgian offered nothing going forward or at the back and Louis van Gaal‘s decision to keep him on did not go down well.

United now need to pick themselves up for the huge clash against Liverpool on Sunday. The Reds will travel to Anfield knowing that there is huge importance on the game now that they have dropped even more points and a win is vital in their quest to finish in the top four.
